Interested in learning to play a hurdy-gurdy, my husband Andy and I spent a day with Quentin as complete beginners. We had seen him performing many times before and thought he would be the perfect choice to teach us for a taster session. How right were we! 

Quentin quickly put us at our ease and gave an overview of a plan for the day. We began by exploring the instruments he had let us use for the day. He watched us closely and listened to us individually, instructing us on the correct methods and hand positioning as we played our first notes. Step-by-step, we proceeded until lunchtime, by which time we had practiced half of a tune called The Ride.

After a delicious lunch made by Anna, we were then taught the second half of the tune and practised it. Quentin made our first step into the world of hurdy-gurdy a fun experience. Towards the end of the day, Andy and I were also given time in separate rooms to practice the tune and link both parts of it together, while Quentin popped in and checked on us.

Throughout the day Quentin also gave us tips, recommendations and tricks and he demonstrated many different ways to embellish the sounds as well as advice on buying a hurdy-gurdy. Afterwards he got in contact and followed up this advice in written form in an email with links and videos. What an amazing experience we had.

We wholly recommend Quentin as an inspirational hurdy-gurdy teacher and thank him dearly. We had not expected to have progressed to playing a tune that day so were very pleased with what this talented artist had helped us achieve. Would not hesitate to recommend him!
